NIPPON SKILLED VOLUNTEERS ASSOCIATION (NISVA)
- What is NISVA?
Nippon Skilled Volunteers Association (NISVA) is a non-governmental,
non-profit Japanese organization, which recruits and assists Japanese
seniors who are willing to work on a volunteer basis sending them
to developing countries (host countries) in Southeast Asia to contribute
their practical knowledge and skills in supporting the host countries'
economic and social development. The volunteers also help promote
mutual understanding and goodwill between the host countries and
Japan. NISVA was established in December 2004.
- Who funds
NISVA?
The Nippon Foundation of Japan – one of the nation's largest
philanthropic, non-governmental organization – is providing
funds and support for the operation of NISVA.

- What are the objectives of NISVA?
NISVA believes that the best way for an international corporation to
promote development is through the transfer of know-how and the personal
relationships between people. Therefore, NISVA plays an intermediary
role between Japanese volunteers and host organizations. NISVA also
wants to enrich the lives of retired seniors by offering them the
opportunity to work for international causes.
- Who are NISVA
volunteers
Volunteers of NISVA are seniors (50 to 70 years old) who are retired
and who feel a desire to make a positive difference in society. NISVA's
volunteers have finely-polished skills from their long work experience
and are eager to share them with the people in the developing countries.
- In what countries
has NISVA been working?
NISVA has sent more than 40 volunteers to the developing countries
in Southeast Asia such as the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Mongolia,
Cambodia, Vietnam, etc. since its establishment in 2004.
