NISVA UPDATE
As of January 2006, NISVA sent or going to send fifteen volunteers
in four countries.
Country: Myanmar
NISVA have three programs in Myanmar.
1) Agriculture (Rice and fruit trees)
Since April 2005, Mr. Toshiharu Tanaka (49), agriculture
specialist, is working for the City of Mandalay
to train young trainees to transfer skills
of rice farming and fruit tree cultivation(mainly
plum trees).
2) Deaf school in Mandalay
Mr. Yoshio Suzuki (69) and his wife, Rioko Suzuki(60),are
going to teach sport education and sewing
skill respectively to deaf students in Deaf School in Mandalay,
starting April 2006 for one year. They themselves
are deaf couple and eager to help handicapped
people.
3) Traditional Medical School
Mr. Teruo Kageyama(64, acupuncturist) is going
to give special course in Japanese acupuncture
at Traditional Medical school in Mandalay
starting August 2006.
Country: Sri Lanka
NISVA have three programs in Sri Lanka.
1) Agriculture
Since October 2005, Mr. Iwao Kudo (71)
and Mr. Masayuki
Noda (67) are giving agriculture training to young people at
the training
center sponsored
by Sewalanka Foundation, which is
one of the biggest NGOs in Sri Lanka. Mr. Kudo is
a specialist of general farming,
and Mr. Noda is a specialist of rice.
2) Dress making training in Tsunami
stricken area
Since October 2005, Ms.
Motoko Nakajo (76) has worked to train young women how to sew and
make dress
at the
training
center (sponsored by
Sewalanka Foundation) in Tsunami-stricken area. The purpose
is to transfer the skills
so that the women can support themselves. Ms. Nakajo had a
team with two assistants,
Ms. Katsuyo Motonaga (47) and Ms. Akemi Sato (59).
3) Tourism advisor
Mr. Takao Makino (63)
has worked as
an advisor of tourism for Sewalanka Foundation. The Foundation
has a program
of
promoting tourism
to
help the victims
of Tsunami in December 2004. Mr. Makino has experience of
working for tourism
and he is helping
the program to
increase visitors from Japan.
Country: Viet Nam
Mr. Tsutomu
Fukui (63) is working for the city of Da
Nang as an advisor
of tourism and
exchange program of
sport players, since January 2006.

Country: Bhutan
NISVA
is giving financial help for Japan Silver
Volunteers Association
to send the following
four volunteers
in Bhutan for the
period of one year.
1) Mr. Matsuura (Automobile repair specialist)
2) Mr. Horikawa (Computer technician)
3) Mr. Murakami (veterinarian)
4) Mr. Inoue (wood craftsman)
